Nida Fazli

In my last post, in which I posted poetry by Bashir Badr, I mentioned the introduction of the collection had been done by Nida Fazli. Its a good time to introduce some poetry by this well-known poet too! I have come across some very beautiful ghazals by him, and quite a few of his ghazals have been sung by Jagjit Singh. I admire his poetry for two main reasons - the philosophical bend usually conveyed through everyday objects, and the rhythm.

Right now, I am posting two of his ghazals, that I like most. Will post more in time to come.

dhuup meN niklo, ghaTaao meN nahaa kar dekho,
ziNdagii kyaa hai, kitaabo ko haTaa kar dekho,

wo sitaaraa hai, chamakne do yuuNhii aaNkho meN,
kyaa zaruurii hai usey jism banaa kar dekho,

pattharo kii bhii zubaaN hotii hai, dil hotaa hai,
apne ghar ke dar-o-deewaar sajaa kar dekho,

faaslaa nazro kaa dhokhaa bhii to ho saktaa hai,
wo mile yaa na mile, haath baDhaa kar dekho.

Go out in the sun, take a shower in the rains
Put away the books, and see what is life

It is a star, let it shine in your eyes
Is it necessary to see it having a body [to know it]

The stones can also have a voice, a heart
See it - adorn the doors and walls of your home

The distance can be just a perception
You may find it [him/her] or not, spread your arms to find it

duniyaa jise kahate hai.n jaaduu kaa khilonaa hai
mil jaaye to miTTii hai kho jaaye to sonaa hai

achchhaa-saa ko_ii mausam tanhaa-saa ko_ii aalam
har vaqt kaa ronaa to bekaar kaa ronaa hai

barasaat kaa baadal to diivaanaa hai kyaa jaane
kis raah se bachanaa hai kis chhat ko bhigonaa hai

Gam ho ki Khushii dono.n kuchh der ke saathii hai.n
phir rastaa hii rastaa hai ha.Nsanaa hai na ronaa hai

aavaaraa_mizaajii ne phailaa diyaa aa.Ngaan ko
aakaash kii chaadaar hai dharatii kaa bichhonaa hai

[aavaaraa_mizaajii = wanderlust/habit of wandering about]
[chaadar = sheet; bichhonaa = bed]

That what is called world, is like a magic toy
If you get it, it's dirt, if you lose it, it's gold
[dirt => worthless, gold => valuable]

A beautiful weather, a solitary moment
Crying all the time is useless crying

The rain cloud is crazy, it does not know
Which path to avoid, which roof to wet

My wanderlust has extended my courtyard
I have the sky for a sheet, and the earth for a bed

Way to Go Sigma!

I am more into listening than reading Ghazals so my knowledge is limited only to that but yeah, Nida Fazli has written some amazing Ghazals. Though I am sure you would have come across these, can't help adding my 2 cents:

--------------------------
Safar main dhoop to hogi, jo chal sako to chalo,
Sabhi hain bheed main, tum jo nikal sako to chalo
------------------------------
Benaam-sa yeh dard thaher kyun nahin jaata?
jo beet gaya hai woh guzar jyun nahin jaata?
--------------------------------

Wonderful, Loved it.
The first one is just opposite of "Dhup me na nikla karo Roop ki Rani" ... coz the Nature is the most beautiful thing.

The second one is also interesting.
Let me continue my sayeri..

Aaj feeka hay asman
Magar uska uchai to dekho
Ek hara to kaya hua
Harse hi Aaj jeetna sikho

@LeziB: I completely agree - Nida has written soma amazing ghazals. And amongst the ones I read, I liked these lines the best - "duniya jise kahte hain jadu ka khilona hai".

Of the two you mention, I have come across the first, but not the second one. Will try to find it!

@Pijush: Wah wah! Kya baat hai!!

@Adi: Oh, oh , oh, I will, Adi, I will! ;-)

faaslaa nazron ka dhokha bhi to ho saktaa hai,

waaaaahhhhh

here is another one that i like..

kabhi kabhi yuun bhi humne apne hi ko bahalaayaa hai
jin baaton ko khud nahin samjhe auron ko samajhaayaa hai

Waise to saari ghazlen hi lajwaab hain, but .. ye agli waali bhi bahut acchi hai

apnaa gham leke kahin aur na jaayaa jaaye
ghar mein bikhri hui cheezon ko sajaayaa jaaye

adi - Firaq Gorakhpuri ....

kya khoob likha hai -

chhalak ke kam na ho aisi koi sharaab nahin
nigaah-e-nargis-e-r'anaa - tera javaab nahin

Firaaq sahib ki ek aur ghazal-

Gair kyaa jaaniye kyon mujh ko buraa kahte hain
aap kahte hain jo aisaa to bajaa kahte hain

another one of my favorites..

ye to nahin ke gham nahin
haan meri aankh nam nahin

tum bhi to tum nahin ho aaj
hum bhi to aaj hum nahin

ab na khushi ki hai khushi
gham kaa bhi ab to gham nahin

maut agarche maut hai
maut se zist kam nahin

@Raj: Sure, I have heard of both of them! And from the seconf one you mention, I love this sher:
Ghar se door has masjid to chalo yu.n kar lei.n
Kisi rote hue bachhe ko hansaayaa jaaye
[I had intended to post this one in time to come :-)]

Though I have not come across the Ghazals by Firaq that you have mentioned here. I'll check it out! And the last ghazal that you have posted here is wonderful, who is the poet?

Came across my fav ghazals on your page and got hooked.
"Faasla nazron ka dhoka bhi toh ho sakta hai , woh mile ya na mile haath badha kar dekho"
defines the being of an eternal optimistic like me..
and ironical to that is
"Woh sitaara hai chamakne do usse .. Kya zaroori hai usse jism banakar dekho "
questions the free-spirited dreamer in me .

I ve always been fascinated by the way Nida Faazli has penned the most complex of emotions , so effortlessly.

Just wanted to say .. i enjoyed my time here on your page

Would drop in more often!
